NekoJonez’s October 2018 Update

DSC_0957

Dear lord, is it already October? This year has been flying by and it was extremely nuts. So, I think it’s time to update you guys and girls on what’s going on in my life and what you can expect for the future of my blog. This is quite a lot to talk about so, here we go. Also, feel free to leave a comment in the comment section down below.

Personal life stuff

In a previous update, I talked about a few things. Let’s first start with my final project. That’s currently in full swing. Researching and writing this out takes up a lot of my time. For those who don’t know, I’m a college student and I’m doing Computer Science. I have finished all my subjects and now I have my final project to write. I’m taking the networking classes. My final project is upgrading and monitoring a school network. It’s quite a challenge and I’m learning quite a lot.

Because of that, I don’t always have the time to play new games to write about on my blog. In addition to that, I sometimes feel burned out on writing and then writing something for my blog is just a bit too much. So, if I skip a week, I’ll always announce it on my Twitter.

Besides my final project, my theater group started in the new season. Currently I’m working on some things for our open stage next week. It will be quite a lot of fun and I can’t wait to see it when it all comes together. But that has been eating my free time as well.

Troy and Dobby.jpg

On top of that, my family and I are raising two adorable little fluff balls. Since Sparta died in July of 2018, I really missed having a cat around to hold me company. In August of this year, we adopted these two little kittens. They are brother and sister. The left gray one has been named by my sister and this lady is called Dobby. The right brown one has been named by me. I named this man Troy. His name has been chosen as a reference to Sparta. Our bonds are slowly but surely forming. Currently, they have grown enough to learn to explore outside. That’s fun. It really melts my heart when Troy starting to meow when he doesn’t see me for a few minutes when we are outside. They rarely sit still, so I won’t be flooding my Twitter with pictures of them, but I’ll try.

So, it’s quite clear by now that I’m quite busy. I’m still working full time as well. In my last update I also talked about my bad mental health. Currently, the situation hasn’t improved a lot. But, huge changes are happening. Because of privacy reasons, I won’t be talking about them in public.

Before I start talking about the blog related things, I want to talk about the games I’m playing. Currently, I’m playing a lot of games I have reviewed in the past. Games like The Legend of Zelda – Breath of the Wild, Europa Universalis IV, A Hat in Time amongst a slew of others. I mostly want to wrap up those games so I can cross a few games of my backlog list. But, I’m still playing some other games want to review or talk about.

Blog stuff

So, something strange is going on with my blog. For some reason, my views are all over the place. While I have days that my blog is doing very good, I have also days that I barely get any visitors over.

Opera Snapshot_2018-10-07_200020_wordpress.com

That said, if anyone can explain me why my views are so low, that would be welcome. Any feedback on my work is welcome. Also, if you ever have a suggestion for a review or a topic you want me to talk about, feel free to contact me on my Twitter or contact page.

A project I have currently running on my blog is the Tomb Raider project. Currently, we are extremely close in finishing it. I have to finish two articles, which I might do next week. I’m aiming to release it somewhere this year. I’ll update you guys on the release date on my Twitter.

In almost every update I talk about wanted to update my blog with new categories and updating older articles (Mostly removing typo’s, fixing broken links and images). For now, I won’t be doing that. I’ll mostly be focusing on the current running projects. The whole restructuring and updating of my blog will be for 2019.

What else can you expect from me in 2018? Besides the Tomb Raider project I don’t have any crazy plans. I have a few games I still want to talk about on my blog before the year ends. There are a few Switch, PC, PSP and PS2 games I still want to review.

I do have some plans for 2019. I have a few ideas for collaborations and other projects. But, I’ll only be able to work on them when the new year starts. Simply, because I don’t have the time for them now.

And that’s everything I wanted to talk about for now. This article has been a summary of my tweets in the past few months, so, if you want to know these things hot from the press; you should follow me on Twitter.

Thank you for reading this article and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. I hope to be able to welcome you in another article but until then, have a great rest of your day and take care.

Gamer’s Thoughts: Remakes & Reboots ft. Get Good Gaming

So, today I want to take you on a different journey through my thoughts. Not too long ago, the people over at Get Good Gaming invited me to be on one of their Get Good Talks. A 30 minute long podcast talking about a certain subject. In this episode, we talked about reboots and remakes, a topic I wanted to cover in the past on my blog. Here is the actual podcast. I’m sorry for the connection issues you can hear at my end.

It has been quite a long time since people heard my voice. But doing this podcast made me do more. So, if there are any YouTubers/podcasters reading this that do podcasts, feel free to contact me. I would be interested in doing some more podcasts.

In addition to that, I would love to expand on this topic in the future. Thanks to my friends, I have a whole list of games I could cover that are remakes or reboots.

Also, if you are interested in videos about gaming, be sure to give the channel from Get Good Gaming a look. They guys behind it are pretty nice people and I wish they get more recognition. So, go ahead and take a look, okay?

Gamer’s Thoughts – Game Nostalgia: The good old 3D-shooters

HereticWhen I was younger, I found a website that allowed me to play demo versions of popular old DOS-games. From that website I got introduced to games like Heretic, Doom, Duke Nukem, and various other games. Somehow, Wolfenstein 3D was my favorite. I used to play the first few levels over and over again. Then I discovered Heretic, I fell even more in love with that game than Wolfenstein, since it started to speak to me on a personal level. I was always interested in a realistic-ish world with some (or a lot of) fantasy elements. Anyways, I’m rambling on, let’s talk about some old 3D shooter games and let’s get extremely nostalgic. I hope you guys and girls enjoy this read. And as always, feel free to leave a comment with your opinion on the games I covered and/or the content of this article.

Wolfenstein 3D

hqdefault

So, most of the times DooM is considered to be the first “real” 3D shooter. Which isn’t true. Wolfenstein came earlier.

I actually finished this game on the GBA. The only two negatives off that version are a lack of a map and no music. For the rest, it’s a really nice port of the game to play on the go.

I recently started to play it on PC, thanks to Steam. And with the music, I’m not really enjoying it that much honestly. The lack of music actually added to the creepy atmosphere. You are trying to escape a nazi prison.

On the other hand, I could see where people are coming from. A soundtrack like that could motivate you to finish the game and try to escape successfully.  It’s all up to your own preference.

The expansion pack/sequel were amazing as well. While I haven’t beaten those games, I’m really excited to see what it throws next at me.

Heretic

Heretic_-_DOS_-_USA

One of my most favorite shooters from the ’90. As I explained in my introduction, this game is one that I adore.

I’m not really sure what the story is behind this game, but to be frankly honest, I don’t really care. The concept is just extremely fun. While I adore stories in my games, to the extent that I sometimes don’t play games that lack a story, this game is a big exception.

I used to play the demo over and over again. Once I got caught in school since I slipped in a computer lab just to play this game and show it to some friends. Man, the teachers were pissed at me. Yet, it gave me great memories.

It was one of those games that my parents didn’t want to see me play, since I discovered it when I was around 10 years old. Shooters aren’t meant for those ages. So, yeah.

It’s also the game that introduced me to the interesting world of cheating. I was stuck in a level, and I looked up online what I should do next. When I read a walkthrough, I mostly read the part where I’m at, and I read a part of the solution. That way I still feel I have beaten the game on my own.

But at the bottom of the walkthrough, there was a section called “cheats”. My young mind couldn’t resist after reading it and trying it out in game. Now-a-days, I rarely cheat. Only when I have beaten a game to mess around with it.

Duke Nukem 3D

duke-nukem-3d

I heard rumors on the play ground about this game. We are in the late ’90 where computers barely got into the educational system. The rumor was that a kid saw a teacher play some Duke Nukem.

As a kid, I was into Pokémon. When they explained and tried to convince me that it was a shooter and it was really cool, I actually didn’t really care.

It was only later that I realized what I missed out on. An amazing shooter with, now outdated, one liners that still get a smile on my face. My favorite is one of the most famous ones. Finish the quote when you know how it ends.

“I’m here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and…” I’m all out of gum.

Yet, the truth is that I haven’t finished any Duke game to date. I have played a lot of them, but I play it at those times when I’m waiting between two big releases. Never a great idea, is it not?

Conclusion

Alright, I might have picked out three of the more popular old-school 3D shooters. Yet, those are the ones I grew up with.

Old-school 3D schooters have such an amazing charm to them. With hidden passages and secrets, they are something different. Rarely, I see games copy the formula today. A game where not every wall is solid and where you get a score card if you killed all the enemies in a certain stage, if you found all the secrets and things like that.

I have played more 3D shooters than the three I talked about. It’s just that those three are the ones I have the most fond memories off. Maybe one day I might write a follow-up article to this one where I talk about some different old school 3D shooters.

The thing is, I would love to review these games, yet I feel that I’m not the right person for that. I focus more on adventure, puzzle and story driven games. And I haven’t seen a lot of story driven shooters. I do know they exist, but I haven’t played them.

In any case, I think I’m going to wrap up this article right here. I hope you enjoyed reading it and my apologies for not writing an article for two weeks. Thankfully a buddy of mine actually wrote some articles in my place to give you guys something to read. Thanks man, they were nice reads.

Before I ramble on, it might be possible that in the future you will see an article of one of these games where I take a more in-depth look in to these games. So stay tuned. ~

Gamers Thoughts: The sense and nonsense of game genres

genre-mind-mapIn theory I would have this topic for a podcast. Yet, when I suggested this to Dark_Legend and Q, they told me to first write an article about it. So, this is the article that were serve as the base for the podcast. Also, this will be the last gamer’s thoughts for a short while. Since I want to avoid that one category of articles gets too many new posts in a short while. It’s just to have a bit more variaty in what I write. So, I started to write an article about this and that one got deleted. Because I thought it would be better for a podcast. Now, there will be big differences with my original thoughts and this article. Since in the time between the original writing and the podcast idea, I did a bit more research on this subject. So, hopefully I won’t be “shot down” for mistakes. As usual, feel free to leave a comment with your opinion on this subject and or this article. It might possibly be a part of the podcast. Who knows?

RPG games are the thriller movies.

D&D dice1So, in the past I wrote an article about RPG’s. It was an answer to Ryu’s article about what makes a good RPG. Now, how does that article relate to the question of today? Well, what if you ask yourself, what makes a game a RPG game?

The most obvious answer is a game where you play a role of a character. You level up and you see the character develop in a story. So, at this point, can’t you already guess where I’m going with the title of the article?

Before I started this blog, I wrote a Dutch blog about myself and the games I played. On there, I wrote one article where I tried to prove that the Legend Of Zelda series is a RPG. Now, I have enough reasons why I think that it’s very possible.

While you think about it, I think you can put the pieces together yourself why the series can be a RPG. Now, is it a RPG? Quite clearly, no. The series has big influences of the RPG genre, but that doesn’t make it a RPG.

While I was talking to Q to make this a podcast subject, he said something very true. “The rules are just too vague.” That’s what he said. I wrote it down with my notes. RPG games are the thriller movies. Almost every game has RPG elements. Could RPG just be a too wide term?

Action Adventure games or Point-and-Click?

Dark-Flight-1Now, question time. Name me one adventure game that isn’t an action game as well. Simple! Freddi Fish, Myst, Broken Sword 1 & 2… Okay, that was easy wasn’t it? Now, name me one adventure game that isn’t an action game OR a point-and-click game.

Now, I do believe there are those rare games out there that fit my description, but it got just a whole lot tougher to answer the question.

Some genres are almost combined every time. I can’t think of any single genre that has only one genre. Before anyone makes a comment about casual games, let me prove you that it would be wrong. Take Tetris for example. That’s a popular casual game. But it’s also a puzzle game. Or Minecraft, it’s a casual game as well… Nope, it’s a sandbox game too.

Clones with a twist!

Clonetroopers_all_colorsNow, let’s take Bejeweled as an example. This game is a casual, match3 puzzle game. At it’s core, Candy Crush is the same game. The only big difference is that there are more styles of gameplay. Did you even know that one of the first Match3 games was called SameGame? Here is the WikiPedia entry.

In a way, each genre has it’s “example” game. If I ask to name a shooter, it would be safe to say that most of you reply with something among the lines of Call Of Duty. Honestly, I think it isn’t safe to say. Since in the shooter genre, you have a flood of amazing titles that have a big fanbase. To name just a few: Doom, Wolvenstein, Killzone, Medal Of Honor, Gears Of War…

In every genre you have an “example game”. From that game, developers make some unique changes to the formula and try to make a game. It might be a bold statement, but I think there is some truth in it. Some games, mostly the mediocre ones, are called something among the lines of “just another shooter” or “clone of game X”.

Once in a while, you have these games where you can’t really put a genre on. I think of “Gone Home” and “the Stanley Parable”. These games are more experiences then games? Or am I wrong here?

We need more genres?

9a781ac4de4bd7695c2b08b7bcc1d011If somebody tries to make a list of very game genre that exists, I think you would still be able to prove that person wrong. Since we could find a new genre every day. Even in the list that WikiPedia gives you, I can name a few genres that aren’t included. Take a look for yourself. Props to the original writer to add the visual novels. Since that’s a highly underrated genre.

Let’s take a look together. Now, I miss games like genres like: Tower Defense, Turn Based Strategy… To just name the ones that directly pop into my head.

And here I found a more complete list. You would think that it’s complete. Allow me please to prove you wrong once more. They didn’t include: visual novel, sandbox, dungeon crawlers and MMORPG’s. But it’s an interesting site to take a look at.

That site lists a decent description of the genres and a list of games that are part of that genre. Now, take a moment and look at the amount of genres we have. Also, take into a count that the list is incomplete. Isn’t this silly? We don’t have many “main” genres, but if you look to the sub-genres; it’s an overflow!

Closing words

So, I think I’ll close this article off here. I think that a podcast would really be quite nice to talk about this subject. While I honestly do think that genres make sense, I have proven that there is a lost of nonsense with it as well.

Feel free to follow me on my social networks. That way you will be kept up-to-date with my latest articles and such. Also, you will be notified when we publish the podcast.

Anyways, thanks for reading this article. I hope you enjoyed reading this article as much as I did writing it. I’m really looking forward to the actual podcast! Also, I hope to see you at one of my next articles!

Gamer’s Thoughts: Curse of a critic – Part 2

20130114-ask-a-criticLink to part 1

I told you guys that I wasn’t done yet with this subject. I wanted to write about my personal experience of being a critic. Be warned, there are some serious consequences when you want to become a critic. Since now-a-days, everybody wants to become a reviewer. They think that they can make it in the reviewing scene. A million blogs are popping up left and right, all trying to be different from the last. I try to be different by talking about more then just games. I post a creepypasta once in a while or I talk about the gaming market. On this blog I truly try to write about the games I’m playing in my gaming life. Not the latest of the latest. But I have talked about that in great depth in the first part of this article. Anyways, though intro has been written. Time to invite my readers to comment on this subject and or this article.

I “can’t” enjoy anymore.

MW-BD501_sm10th_20130531161626_MGHonestly, I has been quite a while since I had a feeling that I truly enjoyed a game. Now, don’t get me wrong. All the games I have played, I enjoyed my time. What I mean here is that I always think about how I’m going to convert it into an article.

If you are following me on Twitter, you might have seen that I took a weekend off from my life basically. I went on a trip together with my mom towards the Ardennen, a region in the south of my country, Belgium. It’s a beautiful natural landscape. You can compare it to a mountain village in a certain sense.

While I was there, I managed to keep myself to my promise. I didn’t think about my Twitter, blog or anything else in my life. I only took my PSP to have something to play in the car. It was a 2 hour trip after all. Not counting my mobile phone, that’s the only electronic device I had on me. I had a notepad and various pens. You don’t want to know how full that notebook is now.

You have been warned

logo_samaxreviewsmoviesWhat I’m getting too is this: a warning to everybody who wants to start reviewing or writing a blog as a hobby or professionally. First of all, don’t try to be too professional in the start. You will give the impression of trying too hard. You must still enjoy what you are doing after all. Since you’re own curse will haunt you soon.

And secondly, you will need to find a way to relax on your own way. If you take it as serious as myself, and you try to write for an audience, you will think about what to write next. When I’m playing a game, I make mental notes of what I want to talk about in my article. It’s strange, but you are always thinking as a critic. You will need to get used to that.

Finally, start in a group. Don’t ever start writing alone. While I have started this blogging adventure myself, I had my forum where I could post my links too. They would read and share it to support me. Be sure that you have people who are interested in advance. Otherwise you will be writing for the visitor who is looking for information of a certain game.

It’s a numbers game.

Arpegi 2 YearsIn the end, being a blogger, YouTuber or any kind of entertainer ends up in a numbers game. Every subscriber or follower counts. Now, pay attention, you have these people who follow you on Twitter to get more exposure. I did an unfollow run a while back. My feed was spammed by too many different people. And after my unfollow run, I saw my follow number drop quite a bit.

I hit me then. The numbers are extremely important to us. We make a special video when we reach a special number of followers. But think about it. How many people actually do follow you. I admit that I have a ton of people I follow on YouTube that I have seen a few interesting video’s off, but I can’t keep up.

That’s what I notice with some of my blogger friends. They want to keep up-to-date with everybody they enjoy. People like myself, the guys on ButtonSmashers… and in the end, you don’t read or watch every single thing.

Be warned in advance guys, you can’t keep up with everything! So, don’t be afraid if you don’t have great numbers at the start. Try to keep stable numbers instead of occasional high numbers. If you try to aim high directly, you will fall deeper then you started.

Also, one of the biggest issues I faced was addiction. I got addicted to higher numbers. Yes, that even counted for my Steam library. I wanted to play more and more games to try and entertain you guys. Now, if there is one thing I want to warn the starters about is, try to keep time for yourself. You don’t have to share every single thing or game you play. In the end, it will bite you in the ass. People will ask your opinion and you will give yourself more work then you want to do.

To close off…

I might revisit this subject in the future. But to close off this article, I want to give you guys some helpful hint when you want to start out your own blog or grow your own project.

Be honest with yourself and your audience. If you need a break, let your audience know. If you loose people because off that, don’t let it get you down. If you need a break, take one!

Also, keep doing what you are doing. If you don’t get the exposure you deserve, keep working for it. You’re break might be around the next corner. It might happen one day that your article gets picked up by a more professional writer or YouTuber. So yeah, be patient.

Anyways, that was everything for now. Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed reading my article as much as I enjoyed writing my thoughts here. I hope to see you here another time. 🙂

http://thebuttonsmashers.com/2014/07/bsp-s3e14-is-digital-gaming-bad-for-the-industry/

This is the season finally of the Button Smashers Podcast, and as such we have taken the time to explain the changes that will come in the upcoming season. I was lucky enough to have the company of  Neko who’s article is the basis of the main topic on this episode. During this podcast we both took different sides on the debate about whether digital games are good or bad for the industry. So as always click that play button, leave a comment and enjoy.

Maybe I may take a break from podcasting and leave it to Neko now ;)
Anywho, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy listening.

NekoJonez on hiatus and updates.

From February until early September.

Alright, I have said the most important thing above here. I’ll be on some sort of hiatus of blogging and the internet in general from this month until early September. In this article I’ll give you guys also a quick update about stuff. So, be sure to read it through.

Podcasts

And I will be a guest tomorrow at 10AM CEST at RetroNick Podcast. Follow their twitter and YouTube channel if you want to see me talk LIVE! I will be accepting tweets during the podcast, so tweet away. I’ll talk about piracy and about Extra Credits.

Update: Due to issues with both sides, new job and busy life, this podcast will be taking place on another date. I’m sorry for this news.

Blog stuff

Alright, I turned 21 the 7th of Febraury. In total got like 5 games, so candy, a ton of money and various things. I had an awesome birthday.

Since this will be a quick and short article, I won’t go in all detail what I did during my birthday but it was awesome. The only thing I can say is that I’m really enjoying some new games and that I can’t thank my Arpegians enough for the amazing birthday wishes.

But before I continue, I want to announce that some friends of the ButtonSmashers are allowed to write articles here on my personal blog until I’m fully back! So, no worries, my blog won’t be dead.

Oh, and I surprised a friend of mine with an invite to the ButtonSmashers blog. Keep a look out at that. Anyways, let’s talk about my hiatus.

And if you want to see which music I listen to, check my Last.FM account, neko’s.

Break?

So, like I said on the top of the post, I’m going to be on a hiatus. I also had to stop my acting this year. This is because of personal reasons and various things in my personal life.

I need to fix some things in my college life. That’s mostly why I’m taking a break.

Like I said in the podcast Gaming Goddess, I will write the Corpse Party – Book Of Shadows review shortly. So, keep out a look for that.

Anyways, I’m sorry for this short article. I’ll try to write an article 1-2 / month. But thanks for understanding. Follow me on Twitter.

‘The Gaming Goddess’ Podcast – Season 5, Ep. 3: “Neko’s Arpegi”

‘The Gaming Goddess’ Podcast – Season 5, Ep. 3: “Neko’s Arpegi”.

NekoJonez is alive! An update blog after my exams.

01

So where have I been? Didn’t you guys know that I had a lot of exams to go through? No, then you know now. But I’m finally through all of them. And in this update blog I’ll let you know what I see for the future! Because a lot of things have been going on. Oh, and a helpful tip is to look to my Twitter feed since I post small and quick updates often there. Even when I update my forum or when I’m about to write a new post. I have a few other posts to write, so yeah, couple of new posts will be released in the near future! I’m really excited for them. I hope they can entertain you guys as well. But enough stalling, let’s get on to the actual updates!

Prizes and podcast guest

With my blog, I recently won a prize. After receiving a few awards with the ButtonSmasher family, I won another award for my personal blog. That’s extremely sweet! I’m about to write an article about that after I’m done with this update blog. I won the Liebster Award. Which is basically a sort of chainletter award in the WordPress community. But in a good sense of the word. It’s basically a prize to say: “Hey, I like your blog! You are a great blogger and I think you earn a label to show your users that you publish quality content!”. (Oh yeah, here is the post that gave me my award! Link)

And that feels amazing. Being recognized by a community. Talking about that, I am a guest in a podcast. Several podcasts actually. I’m in two episodes of Allahweh’s Gaming Goddess podcast and I’m going to be a guest in the upcoming Retro Nick Podcast! I’ll be on at Wednesday 5th of February at 10AM EST. You guys will be able to follow the live stream of the podcast right here: youtube. The podcasts with me and Allahweh will be reblogged here of course. She said that in the upcoming week it will be published. I’m quite thrilled to see the end result.

Fyrecraft & live streaming

Sadly enough, the owner of FyreCraft had some money issues which made him stop the server. That’s the last I have heard of it. That’s quite sad to hear. That means that I’m going to live stream some other games and Minecraft single player. It’s quite possible that FyreCraft returns but if it does, I will let you guys know.

Thanks for the support of FyreCraft, I’m really going to miss the server. We might be able to work something out since Sam got the world backed up. So, I might live stream my single player experience or I might host it. But then I’m unable to live stream since that would lag the server quite bad. (Hosting and live streaming is bad for my internet, yo.)

Real life stuff

While my exams were happening, a bunch of stuff happened behind the screens as well. First of all, I have no access to my gaming laptop for a while. I know that I sad various times on Twitter that my gaming laptop is going to be fixed and such but today my aunt came and picked it up and my uncle is going to repair it and give it back to me next week! That means I won’t be able to play various games, but I rather try to finish all my other games as well.

Also, I have placed a bunch of new people at my friends page. It’s really worth to check them all out. I honestly forgot who I promised to give a shot out in this update blog so forgive me. Take a peek at my partners and friends page if you want to see who I really recommend to check out!

Besides that, I have a lot of catching up to do in terms of real life stuff. My birthday is in the near future. I’ll become 21 years old then! I’m going to get myself a new mobile phone, and I might post some quick articles with it. Who knows. Other then that, my room got quite messy thanks to my exams and I had to delay some things due to exams.

To close off this segment, my theater group is getting back in action. We selected a new play and I’m about to play a role in it again. I’m super excited to play with them again. Even with the new guys. I can barely wait. It will be great fun and that means around May the articles will come down to a crawl. Since I have the shows then, plus my exams are rather close then as well.

Updates and upcoming stuff

And now to close off this whole lengthy update article, I’m going to talk about updates and upcoming stuff. I might have told you guys that I have a controller for my laptops now. So, I’m able to play various games better now. This will improve my reviews as well.

Arpegi, my forum, as gotten a big update. Arpegi 3.0 includes a mini-game and various updates to nearly every part of the forum. I’m so happy that the update happened without creating a lot of new problems. There are a few but I’m going to patch them in the near future.

I’m also asked to write a new mod for a forum. I’ll get on that this weekend. And when I’m done with it, I might talk about it here in a quick blog. It’ll be a modification for a new button in the Simple Machine Forums.

Quite a lot of articles will be coming to my blog in the near future. A new first impression, a new review and most likely a new game diary. Yes, I have one planned. I have high hopes that I going to finish it!

So, that’s everything for this big update. But a whole 1,5 months went over this exam thingy, so logically I got a big update. Thanks for reading and I hope I can welcome you another time on my blog.

Update Blog #3: A lot to tell, I guess.

REQUEST-54b

Shame on me for not publishing an article for a few days. I have been busy and I have been experimenting with streaming. Plus, I thought that I wrote that article of Broken Sword 5 later. That game got an update today. I’m pretty excited to see that actually since that means they might do something about those awkward dialogue gaps. Well, let’s get right to the updates.

Streaming

I’m going to admit that I miss making video’s. But I simply don’t have the time to edit, render, upload, maintain a channel… So, that’s why I decided to quit YouTube. But more on that later.

I announced it on my personal blog, since I am going to publish this article on ButtonSmashers as well, that I stream. For the people who missed the link, here it is again: http://www.twitch.tv/nekojonez1.

Anyways, I’ll mostly stream Minecraft. Since the easy stream integration is such a blessing. Since I can still make video’s but I don’t need to edit them and all that. And it also keeps the charm of video’s. If you want to see my past broadcasts. Click then here.

I stream some other games when I feel like it. Yet, the quality can be better sometimes. But I blame my ISP for that. The internet I get sometimes bugs out and the quality drops because of that.

Podcast mistake?

So, I was out of town yesterday and I watched a comedian preform. It’s my favorite comedian and I had an extremely fun night. It was one of his best shows. One of the best shows of the ButtonSmashers blog  are the podcasts. With one of our most recent members, Allahweh, a 2nd podcast has been added to our shows.

In one of the last episodes, Q (the owner of ButtonSmashersBlog) was a guest. And surprisingly, they talked about me. They talked about me stopping YouTube. Here is a link to the start of my segment. Yet, I advice to listen to it fully. Anyways, I need to correct Q on something.

I already posted a comment on the video to correct him. I might just said it wrong to him or just said it the wrong way but the reason why I quit YouTube is simple.

First of all, I was never planning to delete my YouTube channel. Those memories, I don’t want them to get lost. I said that I was going to delete some left over footage since I didn’t felt like editing it and uploading it after my “I Quit” video. It turned up to be glitched out footage anyways.

The reason why I stopped YouTube wasn’t because I was out of creative juice. I had to do with it but I felt tired of making video’s. I felt more like being an admin of a video page instead of a video creator to me. I still enjoy creating video’s so that’s why I stream. But the editing, rendering, uploading and such was just too much to be bothered for me.

Also, I felt like I had to make video’s and such to gather an audience. And as soon as I realized that I didn’t had time to combine everything anymore, I had to drop something. And since I felt forced to make video’s I decided to drop it.

My blog feels more rewarding then my channel and that’s also why I continued blogging instead of making video’s. And as it turns out, my blogging actually improved and I had now more free time to finish games and finish my college work in order to maintain a better blog.

Lack of articles

Indeed, there is a lack of articles when you compare it to the future. Normally I publish a lot more articles on a weekly basis. There is a reason for this. My exams are coming around the corner. After the Christmas holidays, I have around 14 exams to finish. Yup, 14.

So, I have to slow down the articles. I stream here and there since that doesn’t really prepare prep work. But don’t worry, I’ll still write articles. Only less of them until I find a bit more time.

In a recent update for my blog, I started to post a list of what I’m currently playing on which device. It’s possible that I’ll publish an article about that game in the future.

Next week will be another rough week. I also feel a little bit sick again. A slight headache and coughing. Hopefully I don’t get sick while I’m supposed to study for my exams.

Anyways, thanks for reading. Now you guys are totally up to date with what’s happening. Hopefully I see you around at my next stream or blog! Take care.
