Game Quicky: Space Max (Android) ~ Go To Space

Space Max iconGoogle Play link – Developer’s press release – Official website

So, today I want to take a look at an Android game called Space Max. The developer asked me to give my honest opinion on this game, so here we go. This game is developed by CrySoft Development and published by TinyGames. This game is available on Android and iOS devices. Because I don’t own an iPhone, I have played this game on my phone and my tablet. In this article, you will find my thoughts about this game. For those who don’t know how a game quicky works, I list what I like and dislike about the game and give my final opinion in the end. Feel free to leave a comment with your opinion on the game and/or the content of this article.

The good

SpaceMaxScreenshot (2).png

The tutorial for this game explains how this game works perfectly. It teaches the mechanics in a heartbeat.

While there are microtransactions, the first upgrades aren’t too crazy to buy. I have played various Android games where you get directly into a paywall, and this game doesn’t have that.

While this game has ads, they aren’t placed in annoying places. Also, they are used in a way how I think ads should be used. When you die, you sometimes get the chance of watching an ad to continue for free. This is a great idea!

The art for this game looks pretty cute. This game is adorable in my opinion. In that extend, the interface is designed in a great way. I have nothing to comment on that, besides that, it’s good of course.

This game doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it shows. The fact that you have to fart your way up and the crazy costumes you can unlock. It makes this game humorous to a certain extent.

Something I really like in this endless jumper is the fact that when you can go down for a little while. This is great to pick up bananas or bolts you just missed. In most other endless jumpers, this means instant death.

The bad

SpaceMaxScreenshot (4).png

While I realize that it’s this game’s gimmick, but I got pretty annoyed by the farting sound effect rather quickly. After a few minutes of playing, I stopped playing for a while since I found the farting sound effect immature. It would be a great idea to have some option to mute the fart sound effect for people who get annoyed by this but want to play the game.

The controls can be annoying sometimes. While I understand how they work, you have to tap in the middle to go up, left to go right and right to go left. But, I think these two things would improve the game:

  1. Give players an option to invert the controls. That when you tap left, the ape goes left. And when you tap right, the ape goes to the right. That would be great since my brain is hardwired to do that.
  2. Place transparent buttons on the screen that make it clear where the straight up, go to the left and go to the right sections begin and end. That would make the controls of this game less frustrating and fairer.

The game seems to hang sometimes in the menus and during gameplay. Often when I press a button to go back to the game after I bought an upgrade, the game hangs for 4-5 seconds before it goes back to the game. A little waiting animation would be great.

I think that the blocks directly at the start of the game are overkill. It feels like this is an obstacle meant for in later parts of the game. I would honestly remove them or place them higher up.

I also found 2 bugs:

  1. In some cases, when I died, I saw powerups and bananas underneath the starting area.
  2. When you press left or right at the start instead of in the middle, you die in mid-air.

Something I wish the game had was a pause button. I played this game at breaks and when my break was over or when I had to pick up a call, I had to either quit the game or let myself die so that I don’t loose any progress.

Conclusion

The idea of this game is pretty interesting. At the surface, this game looks like an interesting game. But, as soon as you start playing it for while, the flaws start to show. The fart sound effect, the lack of proper controls, the game that sometimes hangs and the lack of a pause button can be a deal breaker for some people.

I honestly think that with a bit of polish, this game would be so much better. But how the game stands now, at the time of writing this article, this game is mediocre and lacks any punch to make a difference in the sea of endless jumpers that exist on the Android Play market.

Like I said, the game has a lot of potentials, but the flaws drag the game down. I’m sure that a few patches to this game can fix the issues I mentioned. Since this game does some interesting things to change up the usual endless jumper gameplay.

Thank you for reading this article and I hope you enjoyed reading this article as much as I enjoyed writing this article. I hope to be able to welcome you in another article, but until then, have a great rest of your day and take care!

Publishing: Gamers to battle sleep in 72-hour charity challenge

Committed video-gamers Gamely Giving are gearing up to burn the midnight oil from 28 April to 01 May 2017 to raise £1,000 for people with disabilities.

They’ll be gaming continuously for 72-hours from 16:00 GMT as part of GameBlast17 and are aiming to raise £1,000 for SpecialEffect, a charity that puts fun and inclusion back into the lives of those with physical disabilities by helping them play video games.

Gamely Giving are a team of friends and bloggers from all over the south of the UK. They’re asking people to help them reach their target by sponsoring them via their online fundraising page.

“We love what SpecialEffect does. They make it possible for people to play the games we enjoy and take for granted by providing them with controllers custom-built to their needs so they can join in with friends and family,” said Kevin, a member of the team. “As gamers, we believe in the healing power of gaming and how it brings people together. GameBlast gives us a chance to put this belief into action by playing to raise money so SpecialEffect can deliver a bit of joy to those who need it.”

“Playing for an extended period is a big challenge, but we’re asking people to attempt it to help thousands of people who, because of a disability, can only sit and watch other people have all the fun with family and friends,” said Mark Saville, the charity’s Communications Officer. “GameBlast is an opportunity for people to do what they love best and level the playing field for individuals with disabilities at the same time.”

The charity is inviting teams of friends, family members, and work colleagues to join the GameBlast event, which has been likened to a Children in Need for gamers. It’s backed by big names in the industry including GAMETwitch and FACEIT, and aims to raise £150,000.

Gamely Giving’s efforts will help people like John who never thought he’d be able to play video games again because his muscular dystrophy stopped him using a controller,” said Mark. “The sponsorship raised through the GameBlast event will change the lives of much more people like John through the gift of gaming fun and inclusivity.”

Anyone can sponsor the team online at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/GamelyGiving2017 and can watch the event at www.twitch.tv/GamelyGiving. More details about the GameBlast17 event can be found at www.gameblast17.com.

Review: Stella Glow (3DS) ~ Swansong

SGCoverRGBOfficial website

Around a month ago, I was looking for a new 3DS adventure to sink my time into. So, I downloaded a few demo’s from the Nintendo eShop. When I played the demo of Stella Glow, I wanted to give the full game a try. Later that day, I talked to my friends over at ButtonSmashers and something happened. I was asked to review this game and I got a review copy. So, that was a very lucky thing. Also, the subtitle of this review has a special meaning. This game is published by Sega, Atlus & NIS America but it has been developed by Imageepoch. Sadly enough, they are bankrupt now. So, they made this TRPG (tactical RPG) about music as their final game. Is it any good? Well, I had high expectations. And as usual, feel free to leave a comment with your opinion on the content of this article and/or the game.

Note: I want to thank NIS America & ButtonSmashers for giving me a download code for this game.

Swansong

SG-06.jpg

In this game, you play as Alto. A boy who got adopted and lost his memories. One day, when he was out hunting, he encountered a mysterious woman that warns him to leave the village. He refuses and not too long after, all hell breaks loose.

This is how the game starts. There were a lot of cliches in the story, but they didn’t weaken the story one bit. The writing of the characters is excellent. You really get to know the large cast of characters in this game. Both in the main story and in the side missions, all characters well developed. Every character has his/her own personality and they can be very relatable.

The only negative I have for the story is that it introduces too much new major plot points in the final three chapters. So, the pacing of the story isn’t the best in the end. But hey, it’s a minor thing in my eyes since it keeps you at the edge of your seat.

Something that really helps in the story department is the voice acting. Man, the voice acting is top notch. All the actors did an amazing performance for this game. I have nothing bad to say about the voice acting of this game.

Read the full review on ButtonSmashers, since I got this game from them.

Game Quicky Review: Adventerix (Android) ~ Old yet new

ss (2014-10-09 at 07.56.50)

So, this month will be filled with GBA goodness. But let me start with a quick article about an Android game I was asked to review. I had to push the review back and back because I was busy and I had other articles planned. In any case, I think it’s time to give this a honest review. But because this is a small game, I don’t think it can have a full blown 1000-ish word long review. That’s why I do a quicky on this. With my new format 🙂

Google Play Store link

Before the start

I have this thing in my personality… The thing is that I’m quite polite. So, I wanted to thank the developer to give me this chance to review their game. While my critique / review can rip some games apart, I always try to do it with respect for the developer.

They gave me a review copy of this game and they told me that they were a small indy company working together on this game. Because this is their first game they wanted to make sure it’s good so that they can do these kind of things in the future.

The good

ss (2014-10-09 at 08.05.07)This game is rather nicely put together. It’s quite clear that this game had a lot of care and thought put behind it. For a couple of people, the quality is pretty nice. The gameplay is also quite unique and are fun to play with.

It’s exactly what it says on the tin, it’s a Tetris-ish puzzle game.

The “meh”

The music that plays in the background doesn’t put the right mood. It plays some Scottish sounding music. This doesn’t put you in the mood of playing a sort of Tetris game at all. At least in my opinion. At least it isn’t a cheap Tetris remix and they created original music. It deserves a “meh” because it isn’t really fitting.

Visually, the game looks and plays quite nice. But the enemy design just looks silly to me. The small alligators just don’t click with me. Maybe they should change it to the natural enemies of the frog? That way you can sneakily educate players on frogs.

The bad

In every level you get one additional hit, for some reason. But you can’t see if you used up that hit or not. That is pretty lame.

Also, sometimes I wasn’t able to move my Tetris pieces just right. Because there isn’t a tutorial, it isn’t clear how to move the Tetris pieces around.

Guys, it’s quite nice to show you my score, but could you please just show a highscore list then? Since now the score is just kind of there, serving no purpose.

Conclusion

So, if you ask me, this game is worth it. While it’s not perfect, it’s quite enjoyable to play. The price isn’t wrong too. For one buck, this is something that you won’t regret buying.

I have a good feeling that the developers of this game are going to add more levels and content so, about the current short state of the game… I’m totally not worried about it. The advice I’m giving them is that the game needs some additional polish. I think the best idea is to do that while you release new levels. Otherwise it might get stale to others.

Anyways, I think I’m going to leave it here for this quicky. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed. The next article will be my first in the GBA month. So, get hyped.

Update Blog #3: A lot to tell, I guess.

REQUEST-54b

Shame on me for not publishing an article for a few days. I have been busy and I have been experimenting with streaming. Plus, I thought that I wrote that article of Broken Sword 5 later. That game got an update today. I’m pretty excited to see that actually since that means they might do something about those awkward dialogue gaps. Well, let’s get right to the updates.

Streaming

I’m going to admit that I miss making video’s. But I simply don’t have the time to edit, render, upload, maintain a channel… So, that’s why I decided to quit YouTube. But more on that later.

I announced it on my personal blog, since I am going to publish this article on ButtonSmashers as well, that I stream. For the people who missed the link, here it is again: http://www.twitch.tv/nekojonez1.

Anyways, I’ll mostly stream Minecraft. Since the easy stream integration is such a blessing. Since I can still make video’s but I don’t need to edit them and all that. And it also keeps the charm of video’s. If you want to see my past broadcasts. Click then here.

I stream some other games when I feel like it. Yet, the quality can be better sometimes. But I blame my ISP for that. The internet I get sometimes bugs out and the quality drops because of that.

Podcast mistake?

So, I was out of town yesterday and I watched a comedian preform. It’s my favorite comedian and I had an extremely fun night. It was one of his best shows. One of the best shows of the ButtonSmashers blog  are the podcasts. With one of our most recent members, Allahweh, a 2nd podcast has been added to our shows.

In one of the last episodes, Q (the owner of ButtonSmashersBlog) was a guest. And surprisingly, they talked about me. They talked about me stopping YouTube. Here is a link to the start of my segment. Yet, I advice to listen to it fully. Anyways, I need to correct Q on something.

I already posted a comment on the video to correct him. I might just said it wrong to him or just said it the wrong way but the reason why I quit YouTube is simple.

First of all, I was never planning to delete my YouTube channel. Those memories, I don’t want them to get lost. I said that I was going to delete some left over footage since I didn’t felt like editing it and uploading it after my “I Quit” video. It turned up to be glitched out footage anyways.

The reason why I stopped YouTube wasn’t because I was out of creative juice. I had to do with it but I felt tired of making video’s. I felt more like being an admin of a video page instead of a video creator to me. I still enjoy creating video’s so that’s why I stream. But the editing, rendering, uploading and such was just too much to be bothered for me.

Also, I felt like I had to make video’s and such to gather an audience. And as soon as I realized that I didn’t had time to combine everything anymore, I had to drop something. And since I felt forced to make video’s I decided to drop it.

My blog feels more rewarding then my channel and that’s also why I continued blogging instead of making video’s. And as it turns out, my blogging actually improved and I had now more free time to finish games and finish my college work in order to maintain a better blog.

Lack of articles

Indeed, there is a lack of articles when you compare it to the future. Normally I publish a lot more articles on a weekly basis. There is a reason for this. My exams are coming around the corner. After the Christmas holidays, I have around 14 exams to finish. Yup, 14.

So, I have to slow down the articles. I stream here and there since that doesn’t really prepare prep work. But don’t worry, I’ll still write articles. Only less of them until I find a bit more time.

In a recent update for my blog, I started to post a list of what I’m currently playing on which device. It’s possible that I’ll publish an article about that game in the future.

Next week will be another rough week. I also feel a little bit sick again. A slight headache and coughing. Hopefully I don’t get sick while I’m supposed to study for my exams.

Anyways, thanks for reading. Now you guys are totally up to date with what’s happening. Hopefully I see you around at my next stream or blog! Take care.

Update Time: busy NekoJonez is busy!

T-Shirt-Not-Now-Im-Busy-705334

With a random image picked from Google Images, I introduce the new series on my blog. It will be listed under vlogs since this will be basically just that but in text format. How frequent I’ll do these, I can’t tell. But in these blogs I’ll go over everything and tell you Neko’s and readers what’s going on, what I have planned, how much time I have and all that cool jazz. Basically an update of my life and what’s going to come and what has been done. I might repeat these things in a vlog or I might mention that I have written it here in a vlog. I’ll have to work that out. I work on a very “on the moment impro” for them. Anyways, let’s get right to it.

Who are the Neko’s?

You have Arpegians, which are the people of my forum and my better friends. The Neko’s is the name I give my subscribers and frequent readers. Basically my followers. But if you don’t like to be called a cat person, then I have no problem with it. If you call yourself something else, go ahead. I don’t mind. I encourage interaction/laziness/creativity.

Well, let me give you the current state of affairs. First of all, I’m glad there is some movement in the issue of the missing channel icon. It’s back. Yippie! Besides that, nothing really changed that big at my channel so I can sleep on both my ears.

Also, I have been playing a lot of games lately. It has been quite a while since I played Minecraft. I think I might need a break from it. I played Minecraft a bit too much. I now play a lot of games on PC and my DS to have the games I reviewed on my old Dutch blog reviewed again on this blog. This’ll be exciting.

Also, in class yesterday, people had some interest in my blog. I have even shared my link here and there and hello there if you follow the same college as I do. Glad you found the right spot. I’m happy that I’m not a weirdo. And that some people call me nerdy now, I actually kinda like it since I’m basically a nerd in a way. It’s not a bad word you know.

To close off, I have to mention that a lot of tasks are already given in college. Each course wants to join in the action and give us some work. Nothing too big yet, but various small tasks can become one big thing to do. I can promise much new content this weekend since I’ll be concentrating on my college work so I can work on new content less stressed so it becomes better.

The future

Arpegi

Yes, the next few days, I might concentrate myself more on fixing bugs on my forum then making new content. Some things should have been done a month ago but I delayed them.

On the forum there is a long list of things I still need to repair or work on. So, it’s time to tackle a bunch of them. I have a rather big update planned so I hope that when I get to updating, everything is done so we have a smaller list.

Blog

I’m considering either moving my blog under my forum or moving it. To be able to have plug-ins running. But that’s something I’ll discuss with Misery since that might affect the stability of our forum.

Apart from articles, I have no big new blog updates planned. Not at least for this blog. Over at ButtonSmashers, I earned my own page. That’s rather awesome. A lot of updates are also planned for over there so that’ll be nice too look forward too.

YouTube

I’m going to finish my Dream Chronicles series first. I have a new episode recorded, rendered and uploaded. I have only to change the tags of the video and publish it. With publishing I mean posting it on the blogs and updating the pages and playlist. I’ll publish this new episode soon. It’s the episode before the last episode! Then we finished the first game. It’s possible that this blog is published right after when the video goes live. We’ll see. I’ll record the last episode soon too. There might be a second season in the future also where we LP the second game.

The long promised description update is also worked on. I have done a few other video’s. And I plan to do a lot of the work during college when I have a course nothing to do.

Corpse Party, to be honest, I haven’t talked to Hetty about it yet. I’m planning to do that really soon though. Hopefully the mic works out so we can record more. Or I will need to find somebody else to continue the series. Or I might just do it on my own and return Hetty as soon as she can. I’ll look into that.

About the new series, yes, I have 2 planned. A new season of Minecraft Survival in the new snapshots and another one of Saints Row III if you guys want it. But I’m really considering to not do series anymore. Or less. Since I stopped doing some series in the past and I don’t want to end up with dead series anymore. So, I might do random LP’s and gameplay video’s. I don’t know for sure.

Other things

I’m going to work on various other things soon as well. My Tumblr and such need some tweaking. Also I have to do some behind the screen work like cleaning up my laptops, upgrading my software and things like that. I have this boring work gets done soon.

Also, my mom and I are trying our hardest to get our internet stability fixed. Since at certain periods of the day it disconnects more then it connects and it’s really annoying for recording and things like that. We already talked with our ISP.

Closing words

Now that I finished writing this blog, I have to do the boring stuff of publishing it. It’s more then just clicking the “publish” button for me. Since I have to update the vlog page, reblog it, post links where the links don’t automatically post… The most boring stuff to me. I rather make and polish content then posting links.

But now I updated everybody again and all news has been told. Thank you so much for all the support I’m getting and I hope to see you all in the future. Let me entertain you.
